Although the Section members consider themselves to be competitive, with a desire to win every game, the main aim is primarily to enjoy playing a good standard of badminton with friends. It is also an enjoyable way of keeping fit and helps to relieve the stress of everyday life.

A few facts about the game of badminton, which you may or may not know:

- It is the world's fastest racquet sport;
- A shuttle can leave the racquet at a speed of almost 200 mph;
- A badminton player can cover more than one mile in just one match;
- A shuttlecock weighs between 4.74 and 5.50 grams;
- The best shuttles are made from the feathers from the left wing of a goose!

We compete in local mixed, mens’ and ladies’ leagues, winning promotion for the mixed team last year. The hall is available to us throughout the year.  Club nights are Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00pm depending on numbers, following which the Section retire to the club bar from about 10:00pm onwards. Matches are played generally on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. 

Social evenings are also arranged at various times throughout the year.
